The Pizzeria Goes Beyond Pizza

O

One might expect to find top-notch pizza at a place called The Pizzeria, and while that is exactly the case at 4910 Kavanaugh in Little Rock, a deeper look at the menu shows a variety of offerings.

Yes, The Pizzeria’s wood-fired, Neapolitan-style pizza, with its thin, slightly charred crust, is crazy good, but so too are the calzones, salads, and desserts. The restaurant even has a bar program that rivals just about any place in town.

“Our mission is and always will be to utilize only premium ingredients, and we carry that mission throughout the entire establishment. Meeting and working with Dillon Garcia from Day 1 upped our game from the start. I give him credit for the consistency of our bar program. Also, Jack Ward is leading our brunch cocktail program, and she’s bringing some excellent playful beverages to our daytime since nighttime focuses on classics, for the most part,” says owner and operator Jacquelyn Compton.

Did someone say brunch?

The Pizzeria recently entered Little Rock’s growing brunch scene. So far, the reviews have been excellent.

“Brunch is fun! We have quite a few things on the menu that I have been making at home for most of my life that have become family favorites. Nothing fancy, just things we grew up loving like biscuits and sausage gravy, soda waffles with Petit Jean Bacon, and sausage and cheese balls. I could go on, but the main brunch concept is the frittatas. We cannot cook pizzas and eggs in the same oven because of temperature, so we don’t offer pizzas at brunch. Instead, we offer every pizza style as a frittata. It’s been so much fun and allows us to offer a completely different menu two times a week,” says Compton.

If that wasn’t enough, The Pizzeria is also home to some of the best desserts in town.

“Customers are shocked by our broad selection and rotation,” says Compton.

The Pecan Ball and The Oreo Ball are menu mainstays, but where The Pizzeria really sets itself apart is with a rotating selection of housemade pies. Key lime is the most popular, but they’re all tasty. Your only problem might be saving enough stomach space.

For my ideal meal at The Pizzeria, I start out with The Perfect Margarita, a strong, yet balanced cocktail that goes well with just about anything, especially a traditional Caesar’s salad with fresh, grated Parmesan. I follow that up with an Italian sausage pizza and a piece of pie, which I may or may not share with others. Either way, I am leaving happy.

As will you.
