Read More about this safari issue. In his first year as starting quarterback, Clinton native Parker “Park” Parish has set the record at Harding University for rushing touchdowns in a season, scoring 19 this past fall. The previous record was 17, a record that had stood for 43 years. Park, whose jersey number is #15, also tied the record for most consecutive games in which a rushing touchdown was scored, at 10 games.
While attending Clinton High School, Park played basketball, football and baseball, but he looked forward to college football. He initially was interested in attending Ouachita Baptist, but a visit to Harding University changed his mind: “the student body has a unique bond here that you can’t find at many universities.” He credits Harding University, and especially his involvement on the football team, with strengthening his faith, remaining academically strong at the same time to meet the requirements of the football team. As a fourth year student studying Exercise Science with the intention of entering a Physical Therapy program, he enjoys anatomy, sharing, “I have been interested in how the body works and recovers from injury.”
Park appreciates small towns and enjoys living between two. “Arkansas is known for its hospitality, but the people of Searcy are the best I have ever been around,” he says of his past few years as a student in Searcy. Despite his fondness for Searcy, he looks forward to returning home to Clinton, which he considers an “outdoorsman’s paradise.” Park loves Clinton’s hills, taking to them often to hunt and fish. The end of an exciting football season doesn’t dampen his mood as he anticipates time spent in nature.
Park is the son of Mickey and Susan Parish; Mickey, born and raised in Clinton, is the agency manager for the Van Buren County Farm Bureau Insurance Agency and Susan, originally from DeWitt, teaches kindergarten; the two met at the University of Central Arkansas and settled in Clinton where they have raised their family, including son Seth and daughter Juliana in addition to Park.
On the football field, Park is a junior—look for him to do great things next year in his last season.
