Read More about this safari issue.Toad Suck Daze is a FREE-ADMISSION, three day festival of food, family and fun held on the streets of downtown Conway, May 1-3. The mission of the festival is to provide fun for the whole family and the proceeds support education in Faulkner County. Events include local entertainment, arts & crafts, carnival, kids area, 5K/10K race, and the World Famous Championship Toad Races.
On Saturday morning, there is an official Toad Suck 5k, 10k and a Tadpole Trot for kids 12 years old and younger. You have to be 4 years old to enter in the tadpole trot.
My kids see me get up every morning to go and meet my running partner to get a few miles in before the day starts. They are still young enough to think their mom is “cool” and want to do everything I do. Can they please think I’m cool forever?
My daughter was able to run in the race last year, but my little boy was not. He was a year too young. This year though, his fourth birthday falls on the day of the Toad Suck Tadpole Trot. So, one of his birthday wishes is to run the race with his sister and climb the big mountain.
Following the festival we like to enjoy one of the many restaurants Conway has to offer. Last year, we went to Zaza’s Pizza and it was delicious! I can’t wait to see where we go this time because Conway has several GREAT places to grab a post-race meal, not to mention all the festival food!
The race is not about winning to us. It’s about doing something together as a family and making memories. And those memories start long before race day because as the weather warms up, the kids want to “practice for the race” at home. Many evenings, you will find our family out running up and down our country dirt road playing and laughing and preparing to celebrate birthdays in our house by hanging out together and enjoying the Arkansas outdoors.
Another bonus for our little boy is he will get to get a frog shirt (as he calls it) just like his sister’s.
That shirt is one of the “official” Toad Suck merchandise pieces. Proceeds from that merchandise and other festival proceeds go to the Toad Suck Daze Community Service Scholarship Program.
The Toad Suck Daze Community Service Scholarship was established to foster an opportunity for civic responsibility, education, outreach and community growth among Faulkner County youth. To date $1.5 million has either been given in the form of a direct scholarship to approximately 221 Faulkner County students, or has been endowed with Central Baptist College, Hendrix College, University of Central Arkansas, and the Faulkner County Community Foundation.
Grab your running shoes and join in the race. Or, just take a leisurely stroll through the festival and enjoy all it has to offer. You will find a list of all the wonderful events at the festival here.
