Identifying Arkansas’s African-American Fraternal Headstones – Lake Village

Lakeport Legacies Monthly History Talk: Arkansas’s African-American cemeteries are dotted with monuments from fraternal organizations founded in late 19th and early 20th centuries. Membership was often social, but also came with desirable sickness and death benefits. Several Arkansas-based fraternal organizations, like the Mosaic Templars, Supreme Royal Circle of Friends, and Knights and Daughters of Tabor, provided standardized monuments as part of their benefits. In this presentation, you will learn about the rise and decline of these organizations and see examples African-American fraternal monuments throughout Arkansas and the Mississippi Delta.

28th Annual Big Bass Festival – De Queen

Boat checks begin at 5 a.m. More than $14,000 in prize money and door prizes will be paid out, with 5 prizes on each lake every hour. A grand prize of $1,500 for the largest fish, $1,000 for 2nd place, $750 for 3rd place, $500 for 4th place, and $300 for 5th overall.
