Before you start huffing and puffing, just know that I am well aware that many folks are already flying off the handle after reading the title of this post. For the die-hard fans of Littlefield’s Café, breakfast reigns supreme. But I happened to be in the area during lunch hours and wanted to give the place a try finally.
Glad I did.
Littlefield’s is tucked back off John F. Kennedy Boulevard, where North Little Rock and Sherwood practically meet. The signage won’t grab your attention, and the building doesn’t stand out. In short, you better either be really looking for the restaurant or have the directions plugged into GPS. If not, you’ll miss this hidden gem.
And yes, Littlefield’s Café is a gem, even for lunch.
The restaurant was near capacity on a recent Saturday afternoon, but we were able to get a table, peruse the menu, and place our order, all within five minutes. Like any decent Arkansan, we started with a small bowl of Cheese Dip, a somewhat runny, mild rendition that was gobbled up with ease. We passed on some of the other appetizers like Fried Green Tomatoes and the Basket of Home Cut Fries in favor of the Fried Pickle Chips. My tablemate and I are suckers for good hand-breaded pickle chips, and these, while a tad salty for our preference, ended up hitting the spot.

Yet we kept eating, so I guess we didn’t have that big of a problem with them.
Littlefield’s menu is filled with no-frills, stick-to-your-ribs classics, including items like a BLT, Philly Cheesesteak, Chili Dog, Grilled Cheese Sandwich, and Patty Melt. There are a few burger options, but we went with a plain Cheeseburger, a straightforward rendition with all the fixings, along with the server-recommended Fried Chicken Breast Sandwich. The burger, much like the cheese dip, was devoured without much effort. I particularly enjoyed the crust on the patty, typical from a nice flat top grill job. The chicken sandwich, however, proved to be the absolute star of the meal and had us singing the praises of our trusted server.
The oversized fried chicken breast was pounded to a thin thickness, a move that ensured a beautiful presentation, and, coupled with the crispiness of the chicken, sealed the deal for this sandwich’s overall greatness.
Overall, Littlefield’s combination of tasty, affordable food served in a downhome environment made for a pleasurable dining experience. The atmosphere is inviting, with a neighborhood feel that is often associated with North Little Rock local eateries. I will be back.
Maybe next time it will be for breakfast. Some pancakes are calling my name.
