Little Rock’s coffee scene is in the middle of an uptick in popularity, and one place that helped push that movement is Mylo Coffee Co. in the heart of Hillcrest on Kavanaugh Boulevard.
An ideal location and beautiful space, along with a collection of in-house roasted coffee and baked goods, proves to be a winning combination for Mylo.
And it has been for a few years now.
Mylo Coffee Co. is popular, as evident by a recent, mid-morning visit when open seating was at a premium. There is something so cozy and inviting about the space–maybe it is the exposed brick walls or the hanging Edison light bulbs or the refurbished hardwood flooring or the windows filling the shop with natural light, while at the same time giving a view of Kavanaugh street traffic.
It all works, and that includes the aforementioned coffee and pastries, the latter of which are prepared daily by a team of workers scurrying around in the open kitchen located in the center of the shop. You name it, and the folks at Mylo bake it. From croissants to bagels to breads to scones to cookies to Hen in a Nest to Scotch eggs, there is a little something for everyone. My personal favorite is the dark chocolate banana muffin, but many folks will tell you the Kouign Amann is the menu’s shining star. This delicately flaky, yet chewy pastry is not overly sweet, but has an ideal combination of textures and flavors, as does the Pain au Chocolate, a similar, although airier offering.
At Mylo, however, coffee is still king, so expect to see a full offering of the classic coffeehouse drinks. And while I am sure they are all great, those “fancy” java drinks just are not for me. I’ll take the regular cup of Joe with just a touch of cream. This low-calorie drink leaves me more room for dessert.
Maybe today I will have a brown butter chocolate chip cookie. Or the bread pudding.
Decisions, decisions.
Starting at 7 a.m. (daily), Mylo’s has made-to-order items like yogurt, granola, lox and bagel, and a bacon and egg sandwich. Beginning at 11: 30 (daily), folks can order sandwiches (ham and cheese or grilled chicken), a hummus plate, and house salad, along with the soup/stew of the day. Mylo Coffee Co.’s coffee, granola, and various merchandise are available to purchase online. Coffee is also sold wholesale. Catering is available, as well.
This custom-built mobile espresso bar is perfect for weddings, corporate functions, parties, and special events. It includes espresso-based drinks options, house-made lemonade, and teas, as well as pastries and breakfast and dessert options.
