Two Meals to Remember at Lindsey’s BBQ

I

It took me way too long to try out Lindsey’s BBQ & Hospitality House in North Little Rock. Why? I have no idea. The restaurant is an area institution. But as the saying goes, better late than never. Well, I am definitely trying to catch up for lost time in a big way and have managed two meals there within two weeks. And like most of my eating experiences these days, I partook in takeout.

And the food traveled well.

First up, let’s talk about the barbeque. Thanks to a good friend who brought over a Lindsey’s “1/2 Combo Platter,” I was able to sample a little bit of everything. This platter includes a ½-pound each of sliced beef, pork shoulder, ribs, links, and half a chicken, all doused in a thin sauce. The meat wasn’t overly smokey, which I enjoyed. Overall, I favored the ribs, a tender rendition with meat that pulled away from the bone as if they were competition worthy. The sliced pork shoulder, which ended up between two pieces of white bread, also stood out. Lindsey’s does desserts, including an award-winning sweet potato pie that the staff was able to convince my friend to purchase. This menu item is not to be missed. The thin, buttery crust stood up to the decadent sweet potato filling.

On my next visit, I actually went to the restaurant so I could get a peek of the operation and try out some of the reader-recommended fried chicken. Lindsey’s is such a warm, cozy establishment and one I cannot wait to dine at in the near future, but this day was all about the fried chicken. The dinner platter comes with two sides. I opted for the yams and greens.

My goodness!

After I took a few pics of my food on the hood of my car (yes, that is what food writers do because of natural lighting), I hopped inside and cranked up the A/C. “Should I go straight home? Or do I eat this fried chicken right here in the car at the pinnacle of its freshness?” The answer was easy.

I must have looked like a rabid dog as I tore into that super crispy chicken with reckless abandon, only stopping to try the yams/greens combo. It was all so good.

I cannot wait to go back to Lindsey’s and dive into the rest of the menu. Sides like the mac & cheese, coleslaw, and black-eyed peas are all calling my name, as are the fried catfish and fried pies.

Time will tell if I become a regular at Lindsey’s, but after two visits, it is certainly heading in that direction.

Did You Know?

Lindsey’s does catering and has a 4000-square foot banquet hall that can seat 200+ people. They also own a food trailer that can come out to various events. And here’s something you do not see too often, Lindsey’s even offers a Bereavement Platter.
