Located along the western border of Arkansas, Siloam Springs is a quiet college town that often gets overlooked in Northwest Arkansas. Still, the beauty of the scenery makes it a perfect fall destination for couples, families, girlfriend getaways, date nights and Saturday strolls.
Most people know Siloam Springs as the home to John Brown University. The college community adds much to the restaurant, coffee, entertainment and shopping environment, but Siloam Springs is also home to several large industries and an artists’ community.
Like so many towns in Northwest Arkansas, Siloam Springs has nooks and crannies that are beautiful. There are vines strewn on an antique fire escape, murals, restored downtown spaces and new venues for local musicians.
Highlights to Visit in Siloam Springs
Find Solace – John Brown University is a beautiful college campus and the wide-open green spaces, shady trees, and chapel provide nooks and crannies for quiet solace.
Take a Sip – Pour Johns Coffee is as vintage as vinyl and as modern as waffles and quinoa. This local coffee dive is often filled with college students but not too scary for a motorcycle mob on a ride-along. If coffee is not your thing, stick your head in the Ivory Bill Brewing taproom next door.
Play all day – Siloam Springs Kayak Park is located just south of town and provides fun for grownups and kiddos. In the summer months, it’s a busy park for adventure seekers. Other months, it’s a great place to fish or swim in the natural pools created by the rock formations.
Ride along – Siloam Springs is a city on the move. The Sager Creek Mountain Bike Trails and City Bike Trail connect with the Dogwood Springs walking trail to create an interconnected area for an outdoor escape. If you forgot to bring your bike, check out Phat Tire and Dogwood Junction for apparel needs and rental services.
Sort antiques – Sassafras Flea Market is a highlighted flea market in Northwest Arkansas. Metal yard art, vendor tents, family heirlooms and antiques that tell a story litter the yard. Visit the Rustic Lantern, Junk in a Trunk, and more for treasures across the city.
Shop in downtown – strolling up and down Broadway and University streets is a great way to spend a day alone or with friends. The loop of downtown makes it easy to park at one end and stroll along both streets to return. Stop by the bakery, soap shop, florist, antique store and gift shops.
Win Big – Cherokee Casino and Hotel is right on the Oklahoma border in West Siloam and draws a crowd with music venues, live Craps games or a center-cut steak at Flint Creek Steakhouse.
Sit a spell – Downtown Siloam is sprinkled with parks and in fall months, their most incredible charm unfolds. Twin Springs Park and Memorial Park straddle Sager Creek running through downtown. City Park holds the home of the original Siloam Spring and waterfall created by the dam on Sager Creek. Bob Henry Park has multiple playgrounds, a skate park, tennis courts, and a dog park run space.
History tells that the town developed around a healing spring in the 1880s. Sadly, today the spring is closed. But the gathering place and wall built around the spring is in Park along University Street.
Beautiful Lives Boutique – new nonprofit, secondhand boutique supporting nonprofits, ministries, and services benefiting women and children
TC Screen Printing – California T-shirt company that grew and brought their greatness, including the Arkansas Shirt Club, back to their hometown
Ability Tree art shop and studio – family-friendly space showcasing local artists and makers focusing on supporting people with all ability types
2 Gals Junk – wall to wall and floor to ceiling treasures from Tupperware, old postcards, vintage purses, dishes, tools and artwork
