Rings and More at Seaton’s Scott Place

I

I have what you would call a strong, non-discriminatory affinity for onion rings. I love them all, from thick-cut to strings to flour-dredged to panko-crusted to beer-battered. I am always on the prowl for great rings, so when I recently received a recommendation to try out the Fisher’s Old School Rings at Seaton’s Scott Place, I had to make my way to Scott, Arkansas.

Scott is only a 20-minute drive from Little Rock, just a minor inconvenience for the best rings in Central Arkansas.

Oops, did I already end the suspense?

Thin cut, hand-breaded and fried right, Seaton’s onion rings are on another level from what you will find at 99% of other restaurants. Greatness starts with the recipe, and this one was secured from the beloved Fisher’s Steak House in North Little Rock. While Fisher’s is long gone, I am happy to report their wildly addictive rings are in good hands with the folks at Seaton’s.

And that’s not all.

Did you really think that I’d drive to Scott and only eat onion rings? Well, think again. Within a few minutes, our table was filled with cheese dip, chicken tenders, and a cheeseburger. The food was excellent, particularly the juicy, giant tenders, which, like the rings, were hand-breaded and fried to perfection. I even considered dipping one in the yellow cheese dip, a version that will remind many folks of what Mexico Chiquito has going on but with a heavier hand of cumin. The cheese dip, with its thin consistency, painted the chip with each dip and proved to be wildly addictive. And while I resisted a chicken tender-dip, I did tackle most of the small bowl with the accompanying corn tortilla chips. The cheeseburger, comprised of a medium-thick patty and all the traditional fixings, was also a winner, just not an item that would make me jump into the car and drive a great distance for. That’s not at all a knock, but if you are looking for something special, focus your attention on the tenders, cheese dip, and rings. Those three items were on another level.

My lunch at Seaton’s was delightful and will definitely inspire a return visit to check out even more of the menu, which also includes an assortment of appetizers, salads, and barbeque. Fried catfish makes an appearance, as does chicken-fried steak and hamburger steak. The menu is downhome and unpretentious, and the same characteristics also apply to the setting and service. From the looks of a Friday lunch service, Seaton’s Scott Place is a big hit with locals.

And me.

Did You Know?

Scott is also home to one of my favorite spots, The Curve Market. In fact, it shares a parking lot with Seaton’s Scott Place. Keep an eye on the Facebook page for specials, like the smoked half chicken.

I didn’t realize they were open. I know they had a fire and it was my understanding that was The End.

I’ll have to make a trip out there.
